Frequently Asked Questions

Q
Which image formats can I convert to?
A
You can convert to PNG, JPG (JPEG), WebP, AVIF, GIF, and BMP. You can also convert from any of these formats to any other. The tool accepts any image your browser can render.
Q
Why should I convert images to WebP?
A
WebP images are typically 25–35% smaller than equivalent JPEG files and 26% smaller than PNG files, with the same or better visual quality. Switching to WebP reduces page load times and saves bandwidth. All major browsers now support WebP.
Q
What is AVIF and should I use it?
A
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is the newest and most efficient image format, offering up to 50% better compression than JPEG. It is supported in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari 16+. If your audience uses modern browsers, AVIF is the best choice for photos.
Q
What does the quality slider do?
A
The quality slider controls the compression level for lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF). A higher value (e.g. 85–95) produces better-looking images at larger file sizes. A lower value (e.g. 40–60) gives smaller files with more visible compression artifacts. PNG and BMP are lossless and ignore the slider.
Q
Can I convert multiple images at once?
A
Yes. You can drag and drop multiple images at once, or hold Ctrl/Cmd while selecting files. All images are converted with the same format and quality settings, then available for individual download or as a single ZIP.
Q
Are my images uploaded to a server?
A
No. The conversion uses the browser's built-in Canvas API — it runs entirely on your device. Your images are never sent over the internet, making it safe even for confidential or sensitive photos.
Q
Is there a maximum file size?
A
There is no server-side limit. The practical limit is your device's available memory. Very large images (e.g. 50+ megapixel RAW-converted TIFFs) may be slow or cause the browser to run out of memory on lower-end devices.
